Have you ever experienced a season that skipped its turn like this one? Some are calling it the Lost Winter of 2023-2024.

Just how warm of a Winter was it? I don’t know about you, but I barely had to break out of my heavy winter jacket except for one frigid week. U.S. Winter weather was wild.

Some statistics from February to marinate on. It was most likely the warmest February ever recorded in the U.S. The balmy temperatures played out as I, along with other expert meteorologists expected for the most part.

An El Niño cycle in the Pacific Ocean pumped warm air from the south. Pair that with the impact of weather patterns that continue to shift, and we had a recipe for sizzling winter heat waves. Cities in the northern U.S. shattered previous warm weather records this season.

Get this. Fargo, North Dakota had an average temperature of 14°F above normal this winter! That’s pretty much to Canada. If they’re getting a heat wave in the dead of winter, something funky is going on.

It hasn’t just been warm, either. There’s been flooding rains in the East, a dry and mild Midwest, and lots of heavy rain and snowstorms out West, not to mention Texas’s current largest wildfire in history. Will the weather make up its mind this Spring? Time will tell.

The winter of 2023-2024 will likely be the hottest winter ever recorded in the continental U.S. I don’t know about you, but this one seems stranger than ever. I dealt with mosquitoes for the first time on New Year’s Day. These patterns are concerning, and we must study them in great detail.
